.NET developer jobs involve the creation of web applications with expert knowledge in the Microsoft .NET Framework and computer languages such as VB.Net or ASP.Net. Usually you don’t just limit yourself to only these and as an application developer it is more advantageous for you to know how to work with other computer languages like C++, C#, Java, XML, and others, as well as database programs like Oracle and Microsoft SQL. The more of these you have knowledge in the better your chances at employment.

Although it is not very hard to find .NET developer employments, there are things that need to be considered when applying for this position at any organization to have a decent salary. Many organizations are looking for developers to create Office and Windows applications and applications for company websites so developer positions are always in high demand. It is possible to make lots of money as a developer but if you couple this with knowledge in VB.net and also move into web design then that would bring in even more.

Students aspiring to become computer programmers and software or game developers in the future, if possible, should take up extra courses in various computer languages aside from their regular classes just to give them a bit of an edge and because they could use them later anyway. Students though should complete a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology or equivalent because most companies today prefer applicant’s with bachelor’s degrees although there are some companies who don’t mind hiring someone with no college degree just as long as they have the natural talent needed for creating complex business applications but then having a college degree gives you more security and could later help you in advancing in your career.

Another good move which could increase your chances of being hired by a reputable company is to have some productive experience for a few years thru internships or working at lesser known companies and brushing up your skills as a .NET developer and at the same time learning on the job other different computer languages like Java, DHTML, C#, etc. which you will most probably need in the future and which big companies are also looking for.

If you already have the necessary experience, knowledge, and training you will realize that learning never really stops and that things in this field of work advance rapidly so it pays to always do some self-study and research to know some facts about new and upcoming developments, attend seminars or you can subscribe to specialty newsgroups about ASP.NET, VB.NET, etc. If necessary, you must further enhance your knowledge by enrolling in courses about these new developments.

There are numerous .NET developer jobs available in the internet and you should look up the requirements for those openings you wish to apply for and when you have all the necessary requirements be sure to include your complete contact information. It is also advisable to apply to many job openings at once because it could take a long time for just one employer to respond or they might not respond at all but be sure to be ready in case they give you a call. There are even websites where you just post your resume and the partner employers of these sites will be the ones to contact you instead of you applying to a particular employer so in that case you have to be prepared for anything.

Although it is possible to earn big money from .NET developer jobs, this matter will mostly depend on your performance and also on the company that hires you. As previously stated, there are some things you can do on your part to improve yourself and increase your value, for the organization you currently work for or to a more reputable organization you are applying at which pays higher wages. In a recent survey, the average annual salary for a .NET developer was around $80,000.
